Biochemistry is the study of the chemistry of life: How we get energy from sugar, how we store information in our DNA, why diseases make us ill, how medicines work and how our immune systems make us better, the myriad chemical signals passing messages between cells and between bits of your cells. And not just all types of questions about the chemistry of how we work, but also other animals, plants and bacteria too.
In this zone there are scientists trying to discover new antibiotics, using atoms and molecules as lego pieces to build machines that hunt for diseases, and using nature to design new materials to treat cancer. You will also meet a scientist who mashes up mushrooms and bacteria to get cleaner electricity, and another one designing small machines from atoms!
