      Hi Drumpf (heh)

One day, some magic elves whispered into the ear of a baker: “Make us beds, soft and white, so that we may sleep tonight”.

She made the loaves, but they were too hard, so she cut off the crusts to reveal the pillowy inside.

The elves were so pleased that they made her an enchanted machine that would take a loaf and turn it into elf beds.

Either that, or someone said “I’m tired of cutting loaves a slice at a time. I’m going to make a machine with lots of knives to do it automatically.”

Apparently it was Otto Frederick Rohwedder of Davenport, Iowa, USA. My favourite thing about the invention is that people didn’t want sliced bread as it went stale and mouldy faster…

I like to think somebody was carrying a loaf of bread home form the bakers one day and walked over grating , tripped, dropped the bread and stepped on it. This pushed it through the grating and instantly turned it into slices. They said, eureka! and the rest is a multi million dollar history.

It is probably more like: What can I do to make my bread a better/different product to my competitors bread? I know – I will cut it up ready so the customer doesn’t have to, they will love that andy bye mine instead.
