        Hi!

at the moment I’m working as a teacher so I mostly revise chemistry in general for my lessons.

In terms of research I have been working on the construction of devides for measuring the amount of sugar in blood. I had to learn a lot about electrochemistry, which is a type of chemistry that studies how electrons in molecules behave when we apply electric energy to them. I also learned a lot about enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that allow chemical reactions to occurr fast and with the least amount of energy use in cells.

        Jess.

        Hi Keeley-Ann

I’m studying how we can make replacements for batteries for devices like phones that work off liquids like alcohol. Instead of mining materials from the ground to make these work, I’m using enzymes. I think this is a more sustainable and uses renewable resources. I’m excited because I think it could work, especially if we can make it last for as long as you hang on to your phone.

For my research I have been looking at making molecules to help doctors diagnose certain diseases (heart disease, cancer) and also making new types of plastics.

I have also been studying music theory, Portuguese (going cycling there soon) and quantum mechanics (I think I will always be studying this..its so hard)

I’m trying to design new medicines. We have two projects at the moment, one it to make a new cancer therapy, it will work by finding cancer cells and sticking to them so only the cancer cells get killed. The other is making a vaccine for an illness were there is no good treatment. We are trying to make a mimic (or copy) of the virus that isn’t dangerous, then if they do get the real virus after their body will already know how to fight it.

        Hi

I’ve been training and practicing all day on a transmission electron microscope! It’s so awesome! Check this out!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_electron_microscopy
