Plenty to have a great life here in London but not enough to buy a house here……I am not going to say exactly how much but if you look here:
https://www.prospects.ac.uk/job-profiles/higher-education-lecturer
You can see all the average wages fro lecturers in the UK…we don’t do it for the money.

I’m in the top 20% of earners, according to the Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/mar/25/uk-incomes-how-salary-compare I’m in Manchester, so I can afford a house. 🙂
Harriet Reid answered on 7 Mar 2016:
As a PhD student I don’t get a salary. But I have a scholarship which provides for my living expenses. In the UK the minimum is £14,057 but some funding bodies provide more to attract the best students.

Hi,
at the moment I’m teaching part time so I earn a bit more than if I still had my PhD studentship.
